Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2021 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I like this image of Surfers Paradise on the Queensland Gold Coast because of its deep perspective and juxtapositions: dazzling cloud and lengthening shadows; sharp subjects and hazy buildings; people on the beach and no-one swimming; gentle sweeping coastline and jutting structures; recreation and not doing much at all, converging lines to something that is almost obliterated, but is in essence the element of the image that makes it distinctive. I chose monochrome because it emphasises the features that draw the image together
AUTHOR
I am an amateur photographer entering the field after a career as a senior university executive, education professor and high school science teacher. I have owned some kind of camera for over fifty years but have only had the time to call my photography a hobby for the last ten years or so. It is now a favourite pursuit. My interests in photography now focus on wildlife, landscapes, gardens and to a lesser extent portraiture.
I have excellent equipment and have found my retirement hobby challenging and rewarding in several ways: managing equipment, learning the science and art of photography, and developing a more informed and pleasing aesthetic. In short, I love photography, most especially learning how to do it.
