ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I have a wonderful Clematis in the back yard that yields incredible flowers. This one remined me of "Little Shop of Horrors" and speed. Thus the title. The contrast of black and white emphasizes the simplicity of the pedal shapes. An elegance that seems so effortless but shows the rough life it had in the outdoors. By taking this image against my flower box which is black, I was able to use the exposure and brightness of my iPhone to create a dramatic contrast.
AUTHOR
As an amateur photographer, I am inspired by light, shadows, and the "unseen". I work in architecture and understand the influence light has on form and space. The digital camera has allowed me to further explore this realm. I look to find unusual ways to interpret everyday natural elements using black and white. With the right light and shadows, a typical tree or flower can transform into a new way for us to perceive them.
I never had a great interest in the camera until only a couple of years ago. Perhaps it was the accessibility to digital camera editing, but I would always look at nature hiking in the Rockies and wandering the prairies for the past 20 years and wonder what scenic images would look like as black and white images. What else was the landscape telling us through a different lens of light and dark.
