Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2021 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
On November 7, 2020, following a week of uncertainty, Joseph R. Biden became the projected winner of Pennsylvania and, thus, the new president-elect. Shortly thereafter, celebratory crowds began to form outside the White House, just beyond the protective fencing placed around Lafayette Square by the outgoing administration. With much diversity, the crowds were an excellent representation of modern American society. As the they waved flags, danced and sang songs, I perched myself above the crowd on a concrete barrier outside St. John's church. It was from there I captured this image. I do not know the young man in the image. He just happened to turn his head at the perfect moment. It represent the political turmoil of 2020, the consequences of the global pandemic, and the celebration of the potential return of civic virtue.
