ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The present picture is one of my series „Lost Childhood“ which tries to give an insight how Malagasy children handle their daily life. Madagascar seems to be a tropical paradise, but it isn’t. In fact it‘s one of the poorest countries in the world. Only a few children have a peaceful and happy childhood, the majority lives in severe poverty - live off garbage and in garbage. Taking pictures of Malagasy children - their faces, their smile, their eyes full of dreams and hopes – couldn‘t leave me indifferent. Always seeking for something that touches both my eyes and my soul I found the right place there.
AUTHOR
Markus Lockauer is a 46 years old non-professional photographer from Austria. With more than 30 years of experience in travelling and photography he developed a deep feeling for people, emotions and cultures. Deprived of their colours - sometimes in combination of a grainy wet plate and/or double exposure look – his emotional pictures are supposed to evoke a touch of the past.
