Taken on my Zeiss Ikon Ikonta M with Ilford HP5 Plus - 400 ISO film.
As the pandemic stood firm against humanity, a friend of mine and I walked by an almost empty Times square. As we both took in the surrealism of the view, I noticed the flag at half-staff.
It was one of those circumstances where the moment I wanted to photograph was crystal clear.
AUTHOR
My name is Gustaf Boman. I am a movie director and photographer from Sweden, currently living in Trosa, Sweden but will shortly leave for New York, USA. I’ve spent years taking random pictures of my friends with my analog cameras… and now I’m finally showing them.
I never thought that I would ever present the pictures in any way. It all was for fun.
But the more rolls I got back from my local lab, the more I noticed a pattern in my work that I immensely enjoyed; my favorite pictures were all driven by the individual on-screen, similar to my films—people in THEIR spaces.
Photography, but even more specifically, analog photography, for me, is to capture the moment raw. My photos are not cropped; they are barely touched as I believe they should reflect the moments, not a stylized version of them. I shoot primarily on analog formats as I enjoy, of course, the look and feel of it, but mainly for the discipline, knowledge, and patience needed for capturing the subjects.
