ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A sports and entertainment hall, located in Katowice. It is called the Spodek due to its ufo-like shape. It is one of the first tensegrity roofed buildings in the world. The steel structure of the dome, weighing 300 tons, is connected to the outer steel ring by means of 120 lifting ropes in the form of rod-tension trusses, on which the roofing is mounted. The building was put into use exactly 50 years ago.
