ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A magically distorted peek through through a creek-side shack's window finds a mystery collector's unusual stash.
Captured at the Sparkill Creek Dam in Piermont, NY
"I love the way the glass captures the reflection of the surrounding waters and plant-life, creating a distortion of the interior, enhancing the image's sense of mystery.
Who is the collector and how do they spend their time in this room?
AUTHOR
I stepped to the other side of the camera following a long career in retail
and fashion.
As a photographer my aim is to set a mood, share a moment, and provoke a
question. My work is often called "dream-like."
Growing up with painters and potters, I am most comfortable with a physical
creative process. Much of my abstract images are created when I take the
shot – a composition created by camera movement at odd times of day and night, and experimental camera settings. But when the weather, water or place are just right, I am drawn to their figurative possibilities.
Self-taught in business, I took the same approach with the camera. My
unstudied approach, and impatience with post-production editing has created
an instinctual result. For better or worse, it is my own.
I live in the magnificent Hudson River Valley, and the towns and natural
places it nurtures are an inspirational well, serving me as they have other
artists for many generations. The valley is ever in motion, its impermanence a daily, provocative constant to get out of bed, grab the camera and shoot.
My camera frame quiets the internal noise of this rollercoaster life. I hope my images bring the same hush to their viewers.
