Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2021 (professional)
Sweet Dreams (Onaqui Wild Horses) by Bev Pettit (United States)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image is part of a series that I'm working on to bring awareness to the Onaqui wild horses in Utah. Hundreds of these horses lost their freedom in the summer of 2021. Wild horses have strong family bonds yet mares were separated from their young foals and stallions from their mares never to be reunited. They were removed by helicopter roundups from the rangelands where they lived in freedom for more than a hundred years. These symbols of the American West are being removed from our public lands at alarming rates. Tens of thousands now languish in small holding pens with fates unknown, all at the taxpayers expense.
