Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2021 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Weeping Tree better known as the Salamander tree located at Nelson Bay NSW Australia. This photograph was taken during a summer rain shower, by using a long exposure I was able to help portray a sense of loneliness and sadness in the scene. The tree has started to die and has loss it's leaves, as well it has started to loose a lot of it's branches. I remember as a teenager swimming beside this tree it was covered with green leaves...nothing like it is in the photograph.
AUTHOR
Steven Algie is an international recognised fine art black and white photographer residing in Maitland NSW Australia.
His work has a primary focus on landscape and long-exposure minimalism, where it is noted for it's simple elements, leading lines and negative space.
Steve has a goal to create imagery based on a created vision and depicting a world that does not exist while using black and white as a medium.
Through his approach, it is first and foremost based on how he chooses to portray subjects in an otherworldly, ethereal and symbolic manner. Through this he has embraced modern photographic processing and he has embraced art!
I believe this is a true reflection of one's soul and an extension of one's voice and in photograph there are multiple ways to create an image based on this value.
