Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2021 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
“A man who works with his hands is a worker;
a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman;
but a man who works with his hands, his brain and his heart is an artist. "
St. Francis of Assisi
Bartolo Verona's workshop was established in the heart of Catania in the mid-nineties. The company subsequently expanded, specializing in the construction of metal carpentry structures for civil and industrial construction. In this photographic project of mine, I tell of a typical complex and tiring day of work, whose rhythms are not frantic but characterized by a strong symbiosis between man and his work.
The workshop opens from the early hours of the morning, you have the feeling of being in a chaotic environment, full of dust and with a lot of noise.
In this context, the know-how and creation of man, slowness, manual skill̀ and fatigue highlight a world in the process of disappearing, which contrasts with the speed and alienation of modern crafts to which we are now accustomed.
