Photomanipulation: Honorable Mention 2021 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Rhynchophorus ferrugineus or Red Weevil is the enemy to be destroyed: this was the situation a decade ago, when this insect arrived in the Mediterranean islands and destroyed a large number of palm trees creating a scenario of death and decadence of beautiful landscape. The scourge was triggered because in Italy there is no antagonist in the food chain.
The result is that to combat them the extension of the use of pesticides for a longer time has been authorized on the palms, but obviously there are other methods. In addition to the biological ones there is mine: while I was watching the domestic palm die, I captured these insects to study them and with them a fly. In my dark room I recreated the galaxy to fight the invaders in memory of the video games I loved. Will I finish this challenge with a game over again this time?
AUTHOR
I was born in Palermo in 1974. After completing my architectural studies, I leave Sicily to broaden my experiential horizons, first in Spain, then in Italy. I start my artistic activity by approaching music and photography. Two passions that will lead me to get to know various social and cultural realities. I think that my way of photographing could be defined as a narration in the narration, my shots are sometimes lightning fast and capture moments of life that are told in the image. The daily use of the camera and films inevitably leads me to enter the dark room, where I learn the techniques of developing and printing in black and white. I settle in Turin in 2012 where I built a darkroom and I join the Eikon photographic association that deals with photographic reports.
