Portrait: Honorable Mention 2021 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Marie, my wife, with her wedding dress. We are married since July, the 4th, 2018, she was wearing the same white dress she has on in the picture. I'm working on a portraits serie of people that had an important role in my life in Berlin. We met here 6 years ago, we both come from other countries, I from Italy, she from France. Now we are planning to leave Germany, together with Ezra, our little son.
The picture was taken on October the 16th, this year, less than a month ago. I shot it with my medium format analog camera, the Mamiya RB67 on Kodak Tmax 100. I scanned the film myself and edit slightly the digital file. I worked the digital file as I would have done in a real darkroom, only some dodge and burn here and there.
AUTHOR
I bought a ticket to Berlin on a Saturday for the following Thursday, March 13th, 2014.
I had only the promise of a room for 6 weeks somewhere in town.
After my Bachelor's at the Academy of Fine Arts, it was supposed to be just another experience abroad.
It was the third time I left Catania, my hometown, for a long trip.
The first was to Bologna, where I met the academic world of the university for the first time. After 9 months, our relationship was over.
The second was to Sydney, where I met photography. It has been a story of ups and downs, but we are still together.
Australia made me understand that Europe is where I want to live. I am glad that my wife agrees.
Is Berlin the last stop? Behind the corner, I hear Italy whispering my name.
