ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This Crystalotype is created by mixing and growing various crystal compounds onto film negative. Once dried, the negative is placed under a photographic enlarger in the darkroom, cropped, and printed onto black and white silver gelatin paper. The print is then processed using traditional darkroom chemicals. The result is intended to be both abstract and yet reminiscent of the forms, patterns and structures found within the natural world.
AUTHOR
Paula Pink is a photographic artist living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, she trained and worked as a graphic designer in London and holds a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from The New School, NYC. Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally and is held in several private collections around the world.
Most recently, she has been experimenting with both analog and digital photographic mediums, in and out of the darkroom. Particularly fascinated by patterns in nature, organic forms, and the interconnectivity between all living things, her images explore the unforeseen or hidden details that are part of our everyday lives, often bridging the line between representation and abstraction at both the microscopic and macroscopic level. Her work invites viewers to contemplate the wonders of nature and its fragile yet essential place in our lives.
