Architecture: Honorable Mention 2022 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image is from a series I shot in Pigalle, Paris’ seedy neighborhood, once lined with sex shops, pornography cinemas, clubs, and cabarets, including the famed Moulin Rouge. As the neighborhood transitions into the future, the aging storefronts and signs give the area somewhat of a ghost town feel. Their vintage look creates distance with present-day reality.
Pigalle is a backdrop to create intrigue and unspoken drama in my photographs. The images seem like subliminal messages.
In these seemingly lifeless streets, I use the impact of black and white photography to create mood and psychological tension.
