Conceptual: Honorable Mention 2022 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image reminded me of the poem, “No man is an island”. Especially after living through the pandemic, we have realised how we need to be a part of a community in order to survive and to thrive. Even though we may think we are independent, someone else is growing our food, treating our illnesses and educating our children. We are alive because of each other In one way or another. We are stronger when we are together, and we are all part of something greater.

AUTHOR
As a portrait photographer with a strong background in theatre, I'm used to working with models, MUA's and stylists to create a vibrant theatrical scene. Because of the pandemic, I was forced to slow down my photo projects and so I couldn't interact anymore with my subjects or have the level of creativity I had before. For this reason I decided to go back to my origins in analog photography. I re-discovered the pleasure of being an observer of reality rather than a creator of scenery, and I felt once again the thrill of shooting slow. The excitement of shooting with film is endless. It forces you to think carefully before pushing the button, obligating you to give more importance to the moment rather than clicking mindlessly as so many of us are used to doing now with the complex technologies of our smartphones. The pandemic impacted my life harshly, but it gave me the precious opportunity to breathe life again into a type of photography that I lost and forgot about.
