Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2022 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image was captured in June of this year in the Fanal forest of Madeira, Portugal. The ancient trees are quite spell-bounding and when the fog rolls in, the forest is transformed into a magical fairytale and dreamscape.
AUTHOR
Terése Conway grew up in Sweden, where the connection to nature is an integral part of daily life. This connection with nature is a consistent and evident theme in her work.
As a child, she developed a deep interest and love for art and design. She studied drawing, textile, and ceramics and took her first darkroom and photography class in Sweden under Örjan Henriksson. She later earned an art scholarship to MSSU where she studied graphic design.
Terése spent over two decades living in Northwest Arkansas, working in product design and trend. A background which carries over into her artwork with a continued focus on texture, shape and composition.
A move to Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA in 2020, motivated a renewed attention on her art. The central coast with its dramatic views and local photographers such as Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham, inspired work exploring the characteristics of the local landscape and flora.
Recently, returning to Rogers, Arkansas, Terése is continuing her artistic journey. While her work is digital, it is inspired by analog and alternative photographic processes, providing a gritty atmospheric feeling. Her images have a timeless and quiet quality to them, inviting the viewer to create a personal dialogue and narrative.
