Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2022 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image was taken in mid-winter on kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Tasmania, Australia.
It features the 180-million-year-old Dolerite formation known as the Organ Pipes, minutes after a snowstorm engulfed the mountain.
At 1,200 meters above sea level, the columns continue to be weathered by the ravages of time. The constant freezing and thawing of the rock ensures the evolutionary process of crumbling continues incrementally.
The contrast between the brutal nature of winter weather and the unfathomable presence of the 200-meter-plus columns was a strong motivator for making this image.
