Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2022 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
On this particular August morning, the village of Murren, where I was staying with my wife, was enveloped in cloud. Although we were surrounded by the high peaks of the Swiss Alps, we couldn't see them. It didn't look like a promising day for views, but the forecast suggested that the cloud might clear later, so we took the cable car to Birg and set off on a challenging hike to the summits of the Schilthorn and the Chilchflue. As we ascended the final ridge to the Schilthorn, we came through the cloud base and the mighty peaks of the Bernese Oberland began to emerge. We stayed for an hour or so on the peak, just soaking in the views. For a fleeting moment, the glaciated summit of the Jungfrau emerged from the cloud and I managed to get this photograph as it was bathed in sunlight.
AUTHOR
I grew up in the New Forest and was fortunate to have spent time in the mountains and other 'wild' places from an early age. Motivated by a desire to share my experiences of these beautiful landscapes, I soon developed an interest in photography. This passion for the outdoor environment led to a career in outdoor education. I continued to develop my photography skills as a student of Ffotogallery, the national agency for the development of photography in Wales and I have recently completed an MA in Documentary photography at the University of South Wales. I am currently working on a long-term project examining re-wilding in the U.K.
