ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The fly has different meanings in art. It is often perceived as a negative omen, equated with death or the devil. In baroque vanitas paintings, it stands for transience. It can be seen on many works of art as a singular image. But it also stands for the courage and perseverance of the respective creator, for movement, change and the illusion of time.
Some might recognize a skull in the body of the fly. ;-)
The photograph was taken with the help of a microscope camera, which has a small error and changes the positives into negatives. The photo is therefore similar to an X-ray.
