Dum spiro spero (while I breathe, I hope) by Fabrizio Micciché (Netherlands)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Once I looked up at the word “woman” in many different languages and noticed that out of the long list an exception caught my attention: the word woman in Vietnamese is written separately as wo man (đàn bà). First, I found this ‘grammatical separation’ just interesting but I soon realized the paradox this hides.
As a father, partner and son I grew up surrounded by women. Women who were able to go to school, to work, to dream, to vote, to fall in love, to live in freedom. Delicate, fragile, passionate, yet strong and determined. Though there are deep scars of oppression in our society in which a woman is not able to be herself or to express the core of her essence; like the beauty, light and love living inside her soul.
Despite the gains in women’s rights of the last decades, women’s oppression remains a multi-layered and established issue in our century.
She is visible, yet unreachable. A woman put under pressure by society, wrapped into a visible and still invisible veil. Imprisoned and confined within a multi-dimensional and inconvenient truth that silently spreads inside her soul. A woman who wants to break out of her silk confinement but no one is there. A woman with no rights to use her voice that cannot be heard to reach out for help. A woman that does not feel safe and disappears behind the veils like dust. Yet a woman with a strong willpower to break out, spread hope, share strength and breathe through. I could not be more grateful to all the beautiful women that have crossed my path.
To them I owe my presence in this world and the person I am today. Thank you.
AUTHOR
My name is Fabrizio, I am an Italian photographer living in The Netherlands. Besides photography, I hold a Ph.D in chemistry and I love dancing.
In 2014, I discovered a strong passion for photography. At my very first start, I took photos mostly of my family, closest friends and landscapes, creating and exploring various photography techniques. I started spending over fifteen-twenty hours per week studying photography and post processing. Photography is one of those things that the more you learn, the more ignorant you feel. This is why I never stop learning, exploring and discovering.
Since the very beginning, I do not feel bound to a very specific type of photography because every subject is unique and gives me different challenges and opportunities. This is why my portfolio includes people photography such as portraits, wedding, family events and children but also interior, nature and landscape. To me photography is a wonderful way to express myself, what I see and what people like to see. Every single shoot freezes time into the past, making every image a permanent and unique memory.
When I am asked to take photos, I like to connect with my future customers understanding their needs, visions and feelings about the project. My goal as photographer is to make photos that people are proud to show-case with their family, friends, websites and social media. Every image is as unique as every single customer is.
My passion and advancement in photography would not be where it is today without my wonderful wife Beamiris, who is a very talented and experienced make-up artist, hair stylist and the perfect right hand for every project I undertake.
I believe that creating photos for people is one of the most amazing and beautiful job in the world!
