ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This photo was shot on Columbus Avenue in New York City. The man in the white jacket is walking along a row of tenements and what I noticed was the contrast of his jacket with the surrounding buildings. He appears to be out of another era with his glasses and subtle expression.
AUTHOR
After spending 35 years producing and directing documentary films for public television and educational distribution Claude Beller focused his creative talents to photography. Inspired by photographers such as Bruce Davidson, Helen Levitt, Richard Sandler and Garry Winogrand Claude began shooting in the streets and subway of New York City. He looks for moments of connection between people, isolated people caught up in their own thoughts and the juxtaposition of diverse faces in the streets, a crowded subway car or the ferry to Staten Island. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and was recently chosen as one of 10 photographers to win the “Feature Shoot” International Street Photography Awards.
