ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Me and my group of four other landscape photographers were waiting for the sun to set at the picturesque Payangan rocky beach in Ambulu, East Java, Indonesia, when I suddenly captured a well-composed frame at a distance. A u-shaped cliff formation at the foreground with a standing-out tall rock far at the background.
Labelled as the most "complicated" member in the group due to my heavy-weight camera bag (landscape lenses plus a 200-600mm tele lense), I can easily grab my tele lens which already attached to my spare camera body, hastily locked it onto my tripod and positioned them at a nice spot. Everything was in manual mode to capture the best light the camera and lens can do.
Once everything was set, I took several shots of the "landscape" when suddenly a young egret landed on the sharp cliff - right in the middle of my frame. Slowly she went up to the right: walked and stopped. After looking up, down and back several times, she went up again. I kept waiting for the best move, curve and line that the bird can make. Then she turned back to the left, walked down step by step and ... slowly jumped. Click.
This is my very last shot of her on the cliff before flying up to the left.
Unlike the famous 12 Apostles limestones in Victoria, Australia, this rocky spot facing directly to the Indian Oceans is rich with local mystics. We're warned the dos and donts' throughout the photo hunting.
