ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This photo is part of my BFA Final series named "Sanctuaries." I created this series of self-portraits to portray the spiritual experience of feeling drawn toward natural surroundings. I wanted to express this experience in the midst of a faith crisis questioning the religion of my upbringing: although I find myself constantly accepting and rejecting new "spiritual" ideals, there's still moments in my life that I've felt undeniably grounded. These moments include viewing the Milky Way on a clear night in Big Meadow, CA, swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, and watching sunset on the wet Bonneville Salt Flats when the ground mirrors the sky. These moments stand as an absolute among my ever-changing views, and I wanted these photos to emphasize this experience.
