Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2022 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I am working on a series called 'Abandoned'. I live in the north part of Ontario in Canada surrounded by farms. I was looking for a subject matter to turn into a collection and came to realize that these empty farmhouses and barns offered great subject matter, and they were right in my own backyard. I am drawn to solitude and detritus, light and darkness, especially dramatic weather and cinematic landscape. The focus of this series is to find the beauty in the mundane, forgotten, and abandoned structures that go mostly unnoticed.
AUTHOR
Murray is a travel and fine art photographer based in Toronto, Canada. After an impressive career as a Creative Director, Art Director and Designer, Murray dropped out of the advertising world to resurrect and pursue his passion for photography and travel.
Although his website exhibits a great deal of colour, his real passion lies within the world of black and white. Brett Weston, Sally Mann, Michael Kenna, Sarah Moon, John Caponigro, Penn and Avedon have been an influence and an inspiration to him as he moves forward with perfecting his art.
His subject matter varies between landscape, people and street photography having travelled to some of the world's most inhospitable and demanding destinations. He believes the skills he developed as an art director have influenced his approach to composition and use of light.
