ENTRY DESCRIPTION
When dry, the Milgis river bed in Kenya is a highway for the Samburu tribe's camel caravans and bold off-road drivers. Even during the dry season, it sustains the local Samburu population who depend on the 'signing wells' to water their precious livestock. Men dig down several stories in the blistering heat to move the water up from hand to hand. In the melee of lowing cattle, camels, and goats, each warrior sings a distinct song to his heard to reassure and guide it home. This warrior was one of a group who looked after us, guarding our camp and moving us out of the path of visiting lions also making use of the unexpected dry spell in the river bed.
