Portrait: Honorable Mention 2022 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
A locally renowned eagle hunter and herder in the far reaches of western Mongolia named Rehembek (and his family) hosted myself and a team of students working on a study conducting surveys on the psychological perceptions of climate change. A collaboration between Western Washington University and the National University of Mongolia led by Dr. David Sattler of WWU. Over the course of a month we traveled by land cruiser, on foot and even horseback to rural parts of outer Mongolia to gather interviews and surveys of nomadic herders on their challenges, observations and experiences in one of the most unique landscapes on earth. Rehembek was kind enough to pose for a series of portraits in full traditional dress.
