Animal Spirits No. 7 by Cas Bochner (Germany)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Animals are the ambassadors of the wild and the mysteries of nature. They help us humans to connect with our natural home again. Following the call of the animal spirits allows us to move away from the virtual and technological abstractions and the busyness of our modern lives: seeing, hearing and feeling the world in way our ancestors used to. Raising awareness for our ancient home.
This photo was taken in a mangrove forest in Cuba and symbolizes this animal spirit that does not care about about our modern world. It lives in harmony with the old plants by the water, like these spirits did for thousands of years.

Cas Bochner (*1978, GER) is a photo artist based in the Cologne Bonn Region, Germany.
At the age of 12 Bochner started photographing and in his teens studied the landscape master Ansel Adams (1902-1984) and iconic photojournalist Steve McCurry (*1950) .
Bochner continued to pursue his artistic ambitions through photography, while building a background in multimedia and web design. He received his Masters degree in 2008. After his studies Bochner traveled extensively and created comprehensive photo series in countries diverse like Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Cuba, South Africa, Morocco, Iceland, Canada and many more. A deep interest in foreign philosophies and arts was growing in him throughout this journeys.
In 2018 Bochner started to offer freelance photography work. Here he focused on photographic memories of animals and their owners; e.g. illustrating the special emotional bond between a working sheepdog and a shepherdess. A strong influence was the work of Pentti Sammallahti (*1950).
From 2018 on Bochner studied at Fotoschule Köln. Parallel he discovered his strong aesthetic connection with the Japanese painters of the Nihonga movement.
Bochners artistic identity merged into his very own distinct visual language, incorporating paint & mixed media on his carefully crafted photo prints.
A look at Bochners œuvre as a whole reveals that such themes as ‘our relationship to nature’, ‘awareness of beauty’ and ‘contemplation’ form the basis of his work.
