Architecture: Honorable Mention 2023 (amateur)
Hayward Gallery by David Boam (United Kingdom)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Hayward Gallery is situated in central London and together with the Southbank complex and the National theatre is one of the major arts centres in the city. All of the structures are built in the brutalist style - raw concrete but functional externally and internally. The appearance of these buildings has been controversial in but they have now gained acceptance. The depicted structure shows several brutalist tropes commonly repeated in the South Bank buildings - exposed concrete, lack of windows and a "Corbusian" staircase.
