Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2023 (amateur)
Bouquet of Light, Calabasas, California, USA, 2023 by Hillary Greene-Pae (United States)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
My first efforts in painting with light style of photography. I created a makeshift studio in my garage and totally blacked it out. Then using one of my vases as my subject I placed it on this black stool. My camera was on a tripod with settings at a 30 second exposure. Dressed in black like a ninja I used this special flashlight that was like a floppy brush of little white LED lights. This was my only source of light. When I released the shutter of the camera I had to, in complete darkness, make my way behind the vase, create these patterns and then leave before the shutter closed. My heart was pounding. My biggest fear was not to knock over my vase and trip over myself! I found the whole experience exhilarating as I was not a passive observer in my photography but an active participant in creating the art.
