Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2023 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia, is a magnificent island with a wonderful National park famed for native trees and flowers, and originally home for hundreds of koalas. In 2020 the island's National park was decimated by raging bush fires, and most of the koala population was lost. On our visit there in 2022, we witnessed the regrowth of the native bushes and grasses and this image "Kangaroo Island Recovery" is a celebration of that reclamation by nature. The koala population is slowly recovering, as are many other native animals. It is a success story of the survival and resilience of nature.
AUTHOR
A graduate of Griffith University with a degree in photography, Ann values the ability to see patterns and abstractions in nature particularly when these patterns are enhanced by light.
As much as possible she likes to be inspired by what is seen in nature, and this is where she experiences a sense of wonderment of a world which is complex, varied and beautiful.
She never tires of looking for a particular shape or degree of decay in the leaves which she encounters, either in the garden, or on a bushwalk in National Parks.
Often the skeleton of a leaf can catch the attention of this photographer. She likes to photograph the resulting nature’s sculptures, and interpret them with the camera in a painterly way, using double imaging and creative blur techniques. She prefers to create these images in camera, although sometimes enhancing them with digital techniques. To her it is important to use our creative spirit to enhance the understanding of the world around us. In this digital age we can forget the beauty of simplicity. We have become so image conscious that we can often forget the beauty of reality. What makes photography so interesting is the combination of reality and abstraction. By utilising her creativity, Ann hopes to show the amazing creativity of nature.
