Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2023 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
I arranged for a rental for my daughter that included, as part of the property, a second residence that had been abandoned, as evidenced by the newspapers inside dating back to the early 1980s. I felt compelled to open that place up and document it as faithfully as possible, maintaining its untouched state since the doors were locked shut. This shot came at the cost of three wasp stings one coming in and two on the way out. While I was capturing this image, there was something definitely alive in the wall beside me. The days for this house to remain standing are numbered, it appears more stately than it actually is and the site it rests on is slated for future residential development.
The couch served as the focal point, having rested there between the windows all that time—an abandoned comfort from a long-ago past, a silent testament to the years it once provided comfort.
