ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This is a very special ceremony because a real person will replace Master Han Dan, wearing only a pair of red shorts. He would cover his face with a towel. He may not be wearing anything else. He would hold a branch in his hand to protect himself. He will be carried in a sedan chair. Many people threw firecrackers at him, and he had to stand up strong. So far in Taiwan, people have thrown firecrackers during annual parades, in part to quell unrest and to pray for blessings.
The custom of carrying gods around the city and setting off firecrackers to Master Han Dan during the Lantern Festival has a long history in Taiwan.
