This photograph shows a captivating moment captured in this close-up of a humpback whale calf. With its enormous eye peering curiously into the lens, the photographs details reveal the innocence and joy of this young marine giant.
Potentially, I was among the first humans this calf ever encountered in its first weeks of life. While approaching me multiple times, the calf always looked straight into my eyes, probably wondering what kind of odd-looking creature I am.
I was fortunate enough to encounter this curious and playful calf in the warm waters of French Polynesia just before it makes its long journey back to its feeding ground in Antarctica.

Commencing my career with a science degree, my journey as a marine biologist has led me to explore various enchanting locations that unveil the marvels of the underwater realm. Equipped with my first underwater camera at the age of 13, I swiftly discovered that my true happiness lies beneath the waves, capturing the boundless joy the ocean offers. Over the course of 12 years, my underwater camera setup has evolved, yet my passion for exploring extraordinary underwater worlds remains. While I continue to capture the beauty of marine life, I now also share the narrative of the challenges facing our oceans and marine ecosystems, shedding light on conservation efforts and advocating for a collective call to action to protect and preserve our oceans.
