Architecture: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This photo was also taken at the Taal Monument located in Paarl, South Africa. The brutalist architecture of the monument is typical of the 70's. The monument commemorates Afrikaans being declared an official language of South Africa separate from Dutch.
In each of the images there is a silhouetted person (who is my father) demonstrating scale, creating mood and contributing to telling a story adding to the surreal.
In both the composition and post processing of the images I wished to convey an outer worldly feel. A place of importance, a central meeting place or perhaps of worship. In searching to develop surreality the processing of the images has been done in black and white.
AUTHOR
I am a professional photographer working mostly in black & white. My style ranges from, fine art architecture, fine art street to moody landscapes. The simplicity of monochromatic imagery, the rich, deep and detailed blacks coupled with crisp whites and all the tones in between, for me makes mundane, marvellous. I often use long exposures & enjoy working in low light creating low-key images which I find are more emotive.
