Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
After the shouting and screams of joy in exploring a massive blue ice cave, I returned to its entrance. On my way in, I fell in love with the ice cream-like structure hanging from its roof. As I worked to capture my ice cream, I felt no excitement. I looked down from the ceiling to the right to see this structure that reminded me of an Orca Whale. I decided to include it in the story. And with this addition, the excitement level in my heart and gut exploded. The Whale was captured.
AUTHOR
I am a landscape photographer, speaker, and teacher based in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. An award-winning and published photographer, I am fascinated by how nature creates endless shapes, contours, and forms from snow, ice, and rock. The intricacies of the natural world — textures, abstract reflections, and interplay of light and shadow — provide a welcome contrast to the challenges of our chaotic world. Through my unique and distinctive images of nature's subtleties, I aim to evoke the same sense of wonder and relief in viewers I experience when surrounded by nature. My goal is to provide a brief sense of respite and ignite curiosity in the viewer and expand the breadth of nature as a subject in the realm of contemporary fine art photography. My elegant and soulful approach to photography is matched by a passion to challenge myself, explore wild places, and have fun while doing it.
