Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
MoonMoth is an image connecting us to the physical, mystical and magical. A Hawkshead Moth is on its flight path, a night vovage. The moon influences the ebb and flow of the insects nocturnal rhythms, where it feeds, which wild flowers it pollinates. Moths are hugely significant pollinator species and light pollution interferes with the navigation system of our nocturnal fauna. This image references the beauty and value of the insect world and their connection to the physical world. Their connection is our connection, and this reminds us of our duty of stewardship. The moon is from NASA’s open source library on Unsplash and the moth was photographed on my iPhone at the Natural History Museum, London. The image was collaged using Snapseed. I am a professional fine art photographer with a PhD in geography and a deep interest in natural history.
AUTHOR
Inspired by the harbour I live in, I photograph things I find on and around the estuary. Flotsam, jetsam, seaweed and cuttlefish.
