Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The Photograph – ‘A sustainable way forward’
This land belongs to the Ngunnawal people, and this body of water is Ngungara, known as Lake George. The photograph I entered into this competition effectively conveys our enduring connection with the environment, as we strive to utilize its natural elements for a cleaner and more radiant future. This marks our initial stride in combating climate change. By presenting it in black and white, I aimed to accentuate the wind turbines across the lake, making them a prominent feature. The selection of my photograph for submission makes me feel a part of something of great significance, and I hopefully it will inspire people to contemplate the role of sustainable energy in our future.
AUTHOR
I am a dedicated full-time educator with a profound passion for photography, specializing in both landscapes and portraiture. While my journey into photography began as a childhood hobby, it wasn't until I embraced teaching as my profession that I earnestly pursued this artistic endeavour.
Over the years, my commitment to photography has borne fruit, marked by notable achievements. In 2018, I clinched the prestigious Champion Print award at the Young Photographic competition, a highly competitive event attracting talented entrants from across the nation. Subsequently, in 2021, my photographic prowess earned me the esteemed position of a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize. The captivating portrait was exhibited in numerous galleries nationwide throughout the following year.
Adding to my accolades, my work was recently recognized as a finalist in the 2023 National Capital Art Prize, specifically in the Sustainability category. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the fierce competition, with over 3000 entries vying for recognition. As one of only seven finalists hailing from the Australian Capital Territory, I feel honoured to have my work acknowledged at a national level.
While revelling in past successes, I am currently channelling my energy into refining my portrait photography skills. Through a continuous journey of learning and self-improvement, I aspire to capture the essence of individuals through the lens and further contribute to the rich tapestry of the photographic arts. My dual roles as an educator and photographer converge seamlessly, allowing me to impart knowledge in the classroom while also expressing my creativity and storytelling through the medium of photography.
