Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Simona is able to highlight the essential and purity of everything, giving sacredness to the portrayed image by means of rarefied atmospheres. Immersed in the mysterious nature or overwhelmed by the chaos of the city, the silence is what she is looking for, as well as an intimate contact with the world around her. She lives in a little town and the fog is a constant presence in her daily life for a lot of days during the year. So she says: ”The fog makes everything more fascinating and you can rediscover the ultimate essence of landscape that you thought you knew”.
Things don't appear in their complexity, but they reveal themselves step by step, taking their shape through the ever changing light. For the reason that I love black and white photographes, the fog give us enchanting and celestial sceneries; till it vanish so taking away with itself the dream it created”.
AUTHOR
Simona Poncia approaches photography through a long cultural journey.
Graduated in Conservation of Cultural Heritage, she has always considered photography one of the most important forms of art.
"The camera is the equivalent of brushes and colors for the painter, it is only the instrument through which the photographer manages to make an aspect of reality immortal, in the continuous flow of time".
In her photos, mainly in black and white, silence is the protagonist, even in the frenzy of cities. Few elements, an intimate and spiritual dialogue with the observer to whom no one is allowed to participate. The essential becomes visible in her eyes.
Architectures, museums, works of art and everything that is part of her studies becomes the favorite subjects of his photos.
