Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2023 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Dead land can sometimes be associated with inhospitable and arid landscapes where living conditions are difficult and vegetation is minimal. A photograph of a lifeless tree standing in the middle of such a landscape can be a powerful image of hopelessness and decline. The tree, which once provided shade and protection, now symbolizes the degradation and infertility of the landscape. Looking at such a landscape can also be a warning of excessive land use and insufficient environmental protection.
AUTHOR
Tomas Tison is a Czech fine-art photographer who focuses on black and white photography with a minimalist composition. Black and white tones add dramatic accents to a photograph, helping him better express his artistic vision. The main themes that connect his works are nature and landscape.
Tomas discovers and captures places as he sees them himself. He often takes trips around his surroundings and looks for interesting elements, structures, or lines. Photography has made him think about things he ignored in the past. Thanks to photographic images, he can realize and express his ideas, feelings, and views of the world.
Tomas’s works have been awarded in many photography competitions around the world. He has exhibited his pictures in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, the Philippines, Thailand, India, and Czechia.
