Omaha Zoo, Nebraska
Happiness, sadness, anger, relief, what do you feel when you visit a zoo or aquarium? Parents take their kids to the zoo every year, season, month, week, day. They visit so their kids, the next generation, can see just how magnificent animals truly are. It brings out happy emotions, as well as sorrow. You empathize for the animals, wishing they could be in their real homes, in the wild. But yet, here you are, surrounded by others, watching them from behind the glass. It's entertainment.
The little boy in the photo, my son, is feeling those same feelings. He locks eyes with the sea lion, and for a moment, it's almost like they know what each other is thinking and feeling. Both innocent.
