ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The photograph was created by combining two images - one of the outfit hanging alone, and another where I am wearing it. I regularly dry flowers as they make a beautiful addition to many frames. This image is a self-portrait, inspired by a line from a text that reads, “you were the last good thing about this part of town,” which I interpreted as the objectification of a woman - the stripping away of her human qualities, reducing her to a beautiful “outfit” to be shown off to others. However, the flowers in the image had long since withered, mirroring her own lost sense of self. The photo was taken with very minimal equipment, as these were the early days of my photography. All I needed was a section of wall, natural light, and a small stool on which I stood on tiptoe.
