ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image called "Shell Queen" is an innovative mixed media photograph that blends digital photography with traditional darkroom techniques. Captured on the rocky shore cliffs of Queensland, this image reflects the model's profound connection and reverence for nature and the locale. The model is depicted holding rare nautilus shells, meticulously foraged over the past five years. The creative process involved the photographer and model gathering additional shells, coral, vials of sea water and organic materials from the beach. These items were then composed on Ilford photosensitive paper to create analogue photograms in the darkroom. These photograms were then artfully layered over the digital image of the model, enhancing the interplay between the environment and the subject, and emphasizing their deep-rooted bond with nature.
