ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This image was made amongst tide pools along the northern coast of California, on an overcast day in early autumn. The overcast light, evenly illuminated the surface and texture of the terrain in contrast to the skin of the model. Although photographing in RAW digital medium format, I usually take a reading of the natural light for all of my art nude images and I especially enjoy metering this type of light. This helps in my predetermination of how I want the final image to appear. The highly skilled model draped her body on a ridge and elegantly posed her arms and hands just so. The image represents to me an occasion when all the elements worked in together.
AUTHOR
Pierre Burnaugh (b. 1964) Chicago, has always been fascinated and passionate about photography from an early age.
Largely self-taught, Pierre also studied Photography at Columbia College Chicago's highly acclaimed program. Additionally, he considers the fortune of two intensive workshops during the early nineties as essential in honing his aesthetic direction and considerations in working with the nude. One with Ralph Gibson at his Soho studio and another with Lucien Clerque. “Working with those artists impressed my thinking about my own approach, expression and what I’m trying to convey in my work.” Although he has worked professionally in photojournalism, Pierre currently works mainly with the art nude and portraiture.
"In working with the nude, my intention is to create engaging images of beauty and form. Light, shadow, shape and texture are my pallet." - Pierre Burnaugh
