Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2024 (amateur)
Whispers of the Past: An Abandoned Homestead by Richard McRae (United States)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The once sturdy walls, now weathered and worn, whisper tales of yesteryear. Each creaking board and rustling blade of grass carries the echoes of laughter and life that once filled the air.
This is a place where memories linger, stubborn as the wildflowers that bloom amidst the ruins. The house stands as a monument to resilience, a testament to the passage of time. It’s painted with the patina of age, each peeling layer a story, a struggle, a triumph.
AUTHOR
With over three decades of photography experience, I have developed a unique and distinct voice in the field. Starting out as a self-taught photographer, my journey has been marked by a deep passion for visual storytelling and a dedication to continually refining my craft. Over the years, I have had the privilege of being published and exhibited, showcasing a diverse portfolio that ranges from stunning landscapes to evocative artistic nudes. I consider myself a pro-amateur, as I do not rely on photography for my day-to-day living. My passion for visual storytelling and my commitment to refining my craft have earned me recognition in the artistic community, making my work stand out for its unique blend of technical skill and creative vision.
I primarily use Canon EOS equipment for my photography, but I also incorporate other gear like DJI drones and large format film to capture unique perspectives. I began my journey with analog film in multiple formats and transitioned to digital as the technology matured. Recently, I've been exploring the use of 35mm film again to add a nostalgic touch to my work. These tools and techniques not only enhance the quality of my photographs but also contribute to the higher production value, showcasing the depth and versatility of my portfolio.
