Photomanipulation: Honorable Mention 2024 (amateur)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
'The Realisation' is from my last photo-project from 2022. I created this photo right before I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS highly impaired my vision, so I was forced to quit photography and started exploring different artistic mediums.
This photo, or project was a first step into a, for me, new terrain of photography. Traditional photography didn't feel 'enough' anymore. After years and countless photos of visualising my inner self and the way I experience the world around me I reached a point of clarity. Clarity of how strange and lonely existing is. And for this I needed new ways of expression, so I immersed myself in photo manipulation.
As I said shortly after I broke down and received my MS diagnosis (and yes, this drastic change in my photo-practice absolutely foreshadowed this illness), so 'The Realisation' is my so far only finished photo of this kind, but I'm finally feeling better and my vision is mostly back, so I'm planning on going back to photography soon and continue with this series.
This series' title is "Entfremdung" (eng: alienation) and deals with the many ways one can feel strange, alone and isolated from oneself, family, friends, culture, society.
