ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro comes alive towards the end of each day as bathers and football players soak up the last rays of the sun as it goes down behind the Dois Irmãos mountain. I had been watching the scene all day, and waited until the sun was low to capture in silhouette the people, footballs and dramatic scenery of a classic Brazilian summer day. The haze present from the sultry heat added to the atmosphere.
Waiting for a moment with enough separation between people, coupled with my aim to capture the balls in the air, led to several compositions with this being my favorite. The mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the image and make it iconically Brazil, along with the football of course!
