Architecture: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Last April, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a photography workshop with Serge Ramelli in the enchanting region of Toscana. One of the highlights of this workshop was a visit to Firenze, a city renowned for its artistic heritage and architectural beauty.
Our most memorable session began early one morning, at the break of dawn. At 5am, we made our way to the iconic Duomo. As we arrived, the sight before us was nothing short of magnificent. The majestic cathedral stood tall against the soft light of the early morning, its intricate façade illuminated in the gentle glow of dawn.
What made this experience truly special was the serene emptiness of the place. The usual throngs of tourists were nowhere to be seen, allowing us to take in the Duomo’s full splendor undisturbed. The quietness of the early hour gave the scene a timeless quality, as if we had stepped back into a more tranquil era of Firenze's rich history.
We set up our cameras and began to capture the breathtaking beauty of the Duomo from various angles. Each shot seemed to unveil a new detail, a hidden facet of this architectural masterpiece that is often overshadowed by the bustling crowds. The air was crisp and cool, a stark contrast to the heat that would later engulf the city.
As the sun slowly rose, casting a golden hue over the cathedral, we continued to photograph, mesmerized by the interplay of light and shadow on the historic structure. It was a rare privilege to experience such a revered landmark in such an intimate way, and I felt a deep sense of gratitude for this moment.
That morning at the Duomo, surrounded by the tranquility of early dawn, was a profound reminder of the timeless beauty that places like Firenze hold.
