Landscapes: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
As we reach the summit of Mount Byng, deep in the backcountry of the Canadian Rockies, a feeling of wonder washes over me. The mountains are enormous, not just in height above sea level but also in their vast numbers and the distances they cover from north to south and east to west. Yet on this day, they seem small as I gaze into the distance and can see peaks over 100 kilometers (60 miles) away in every direction. I can even spot lakes and some of the mountains I visited earlier that summer. It's truly mind-blowing!
AUTHOR
I am a landscape photographer, speaker, and teacher based in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. An award-winning and published photographer, I am fascinated by how nature creates endless shapes, contours, and forms from snow, ice, and rock. The intricacies of the natural world — textures, abstract reflections, and interplay of light and shadow — provide a welcome contrast to the challenges of our chaotic world. Through my unique and distinctive images of nature's subtleties, I aim to evoke the same sense of wonder and relief in viewers I experience when surrounded by nature. My goal is to provide a brief sense of respite and ignite curiosity in the viewer and expand the breadth of nature as a subject in the realm of contemporary fine art photography. My elegant and soulful approach to photography is matched by a passion to challenge myself, explore wild places, and have fun while doing it.
