Nature: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
When I am out in nature, marvelling at landscapes and watching animals in their natural environment, I am touched by this simplicity, this genuineness.
I then imagine that this scene could have taken place in a similar way thousands of years ago, i.e. that it is to a certain extent free of space and time - only a small hint indicates that humankind has already intervened here, like a symbol of civilisation, a statement of human dominance.
AUTHOR
I am Lennard Grohn, born on this wonderful planet Earth, on a piece of land that people call Germany.
My first (analog) camera was given to me by my parents when I was 12 years old. Already as a teenager it sparked my passion for photography and helped me through this difficult time.
When I left school, I studied photography at University of Fine Arts in Mainz/ Germany where I graduated.
After the early death of my beloved father, my work consists of a systematic approach to black and white photography as a way of expression, where I want to create timeless images about personal stories connected to my past and imagination, my childhood and the decay of the illusion of a perfect world.
Asides from photography, I have a background in music.
I have played drums and percussion since childhood and toured for many years with bands and my own ensemble together with a masterdrummer from Senegal, never losing my passion for photography along the way.
During the pandemic, photography became more important again as a form of personal expression and also a search for meaning in my life.
