Nature: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Nature is our great mother, she welcomes us at all times, has an ear for us, allows us to calm down and find confidence in difficult times.
Times like these, in which too many people on the planet are once again confronting each other with violence, waging wars, searching for differences instead of common ground.
It helps me to be in nature, among the wise trees on the riverbank, like that cold morning this autumn when the lonely swan swam peacefully past me.
A moment like this is poetry for me, and I want to capture it, hold on to it, so that I can read it over and over again, this visual poem, and so that I can share it with other humans.
I think our world needs a lot of poetry.
AUTHOR
I am Lennard Grohn, born on this wonderful planet Earth, on a piece of land that people call Germany.
My first (analog) camera was given to me by my parents when I was 12 years old. Already as a teenager it sparked my passion for photography and helped me through this difficult time.
When I left school, I studied photography at University of Fine Arts in Mainz/ Germany where I graduated.
After the early death of my beloved father, my work consists of a systematic approach to black and white photography as a way of expression, where I want to create timeless images about personal stories connected to my past and imagination, my childhood and the decay of the illusion of a perfect world.
Asides from photography, I have a background in music.
I have played drums and percussion since childhood and toured for many years with bands and my own ensemble together with a masterdrummer from Senegal, never losing my passion for photography along the way.
During the pandemic, photography became more important again as a form of personal expression and also a search for meaning in my life.
